Psalm 39 – Alien Hope

Psalm 39 – Alien Hope┬áDavid desperately wants to do the right thing, but it is impossible. He strives to keep his tongue from sin and he seeks to come to grips with the brevity of this transitory life. His only hope in a world of uncertainty is the Lord: “My hope is in you” (Ps 39:7).

Augustine saw in David’s lament over the abandonment of his friends and the irrational hatred of his enemies a prefiguration of Jesus’ Good Friday experience.
